Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

DUNLOP, Robert Harold "Bob" died peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2002 with his family and his cat "Mom" by his side. He is predeceased by his wife Catherine, his sisters, Peggy, Mabel and May; his brother Chuck; and one grandson Keith Sutton. Bob will be fondly remembered by his family, daughter Mary (Ron) Sutton of Regina, SK and his son Robert (Rowena) Dunlop of Ajax, ON; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. "Bob" survived four years in a Japanese Prisoner of War Camp during World War II. His working career was with the Department of National Defence and he retired from there in 1979 due to ill health. Bob was devoted to his family, his church, children's groups and animals. He spent his last few years in Regina with his daughter Mary and enjoyed trips with his son-in-law Ron. They were great buddies. He will be buried in Stratford, ON beside his wife Catherine and with his beloved cat.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE took place at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy # 1 East on Monday, May 27, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ron Sutton, Padre of the Royal Canadian Legion, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carlyle United Church, Carlyle, SK SOC ORO, the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (Phone 789-8850)
