Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

TODD, John (Jake B.) - Suddenly on Monday, December 24, 1979, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, John (Jake B.) Todd. (During World War II he served overseas and on December 25, 1941 at Hong Kong, he was taken prisoner of war by the Japanese and was not released until August 1945). 58 years of age, brother of Frank, Pompano Beach, Florida, Mrs. Elsie Marsh and Dora (Mrs. Charles Cushway), London, the late Joseph and Cyril Todd. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
At the Morse & Son Chapel of the Gordon E. Morgan Funeral Homes, 5917 Main St., where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday. Service on Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment Fairview Cemetery.
Funeral service for Mr. John (Jake) B. Todd was held at the Morse and Son Chapel of the Gordon E. Morgan Funeral Homes, on Friday morning, December 28, 1979, at 11 o'clock with the Rev. Patrick Doran, assistant priest at the Church of St. John the Evangelist officiating. Mrs. Lois Sheldon presided at the organ. Interment took place at Fair- view Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. Larry Lee. Frank Hoday. Robert Cornell, Byng Todd, Bryan Todd, Vincent Boudreau.
