Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Hamilton Soldier Served at Hong Kong
Mother of Pte. William E. McTeer Deeply Worried as to His Fate
Worries that started with the investment of Hong Kong by Japanese troops and that have since redoubled a hundred-fold with the fall of that bastion have been the constant companions of a Hamilton woman whose son left late last year for that corner of the world and has not been heard from since. The anxious mother is Mrs. Nettie McTeer, 32 Wellington street north, the son, Private William Eric McTeer, 26 years of age.
Born in Owen Sound, Private McTeer came here with his family about 12 years ago and for some years before enlisting worked on a number of lake boats with his brother. In August, 1940 he joined up with the Lincoln and Welland regiment but was transferred from that unit to the Winnipeg Rifles in the latter part of 1941 - just prior to their being sent to Hong Kong as part of the defence garrison.
Mrs. McTeer told the Spectator to-day that she has done all she could to find out whether her son was a casualty or a prisoner but that no definite answer had been given her. "I am doing my best to be patient and forget my fears but that is not easy," she said. "If only I knew what had happened to him I would feel better."
Hamilton Spectator, 1942
Father Resides at Hamilton
The father of Rifleman William Eric McTeer, the latter a prisoner of war at Hong Kong, is residing at Hamilton and is not dead, as intimated in The Sun-Times a few days ago. He is James F. McTeer, and this correction is made at the request of Mrs. McTeer. Rifleman William Eric (Peck) McTeer was born and raised in Owen Sound, attended Strathcona Public School. He attended Calvary church and was well known around the Community "Y", where he won two certificates in the swimming classes. He attended High School at Rye, N. Y., and also Wentworth Technical School at Hamilton. He was sailing on the Str. Stadacona when he enlisted in July, 1940.
