Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Military and civilian officials at Vancouver welcomed the first 10 liberated Canadian soldiers to return home from Japan - men captured in the battle of Hong Kong. Tired but very happy to be home, they posed with officials for a photograph on the station platform. Mayor J.W. Cornett and Alderman H.L. Corey greeted them on behalf of Vancouver, Lieutenant-Governor W.C. Woodward on behalf of the provincial government, and Brigadier J.H.W. Landon, for Pacific Command Headquarters. In the picture, left to right, standing, are: Pte. Bert Comeau, Gaspe, Que.; Cpl. J.M. Blacquiere, Summerside, PEI; Mayor Cornett; Rflmn. John Baskin, Blackland, N.B.; Rflmn. Peacefully, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, in his 95th year. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Emily. Loving father of Barbara (Steve), Sandra (Jim), Albert (Brenda) and Lillian (Max). Papa to Stewart, Douglas, Jeffrey, Christopher, Suzanne, Bobby, Annie, Andrew, Stephen, Elizabeth and Susie. Great-grandfather of Serena. A graveside service at Aurora Cemetery on Friday, February 18 at 1:30 p.m. with reception at the Hamilton's to follow. Donations may be made to the War Amps or Sunnybrook Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Thompson Funeral Home, (905) 727-5421.
