Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

STROUD, John Raymond Vice-Chairman of Canadian Council of Veterans Affairs, President of Hong Kong Veterans Association of Ontario and EX-POW of WWII. Suddenly at his residence on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in his 87th year. John, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty). Loving father of Dale Slater, Gary and his wife Connie, and Edward and his wife Joelle. Proud grandfather of Jeffrey and Kevin Slater, Lauren and Hailey Stroud, and Sterling Stroud. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A private family service at Spring Creek Cemetery, 1390 Clarkson Road North, Mississauga, Ontario, will be conducted on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Dewi Sant Welsh United Church, 33 Melrose Avenue, Toronto, Ontario at 12:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. To honour John's memory, donations to Sunnybrook Foundation Veterans Wing, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4N 3M5 would be appreciated by the family.
