Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

BLAQUIERE, CLEMENT - The family of Clement Blaquiere wishes to announce his death on January 19, in Campbellton. Born in 1919 at St. Alexis de de Matapedia, Matapedia, Mr. Mr. Blaquiere was predeceased by his wife, Gilberte in 1990. He is sur-vived by two sons, Gerald of Camp-bellton and Richard of Woodstock. He also leaves behind two loving daughters-in-law, Claudette Bla-quiere and Jean Sexton. Mr. Bla-quiere had five grandchildren, Lise, Nicole, and Paul of Campbellton and Michelle and Rachel of Woodstock.
Mr. Blaquiere was a Hong Kong veteran having spent from Decem-ber 25, 1941, until shortly after VJ Day in 1945 as a Prisoner of War at the hands of the Japanese military in Hong Kong. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
The funeral service was held from St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Pall-bearers were nephews; Roger and Richard Duguay, and Maurice Gal-lant, brother-in-law, Garfield Woods and Derrick Cyr and Billy Dow. The service included a moving rendition of Vera Lynn's wartime song "We'll meet again."
The family wishes to thank all of their friends and relatives who were so kind and thoughtful during their bereavement period. A special thanks goes out to the Hong Kong Veterans who, once again, answered the call.
