Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

On November 24th, 1996 at the St-Sacrement Hospital Mr. William Tuppert passed away at the age of 74. He was a retiree from the Customs and Court of Assizes, a Veteran and prisoner of war in Hong Kong. He lived in Quebec City. He was the husband of Mrs Madeleine Gaudreau. The family will receive condolences at the Coopérative Funéraire du Plateau, 950 Des Erables, Québec on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 10pm, and Wednesday starting at 9am. The religious service will be celebrated on Thursday November 28 at 10am in the St-Patrick church, and the burial will be at the St-Patrick cemetery. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and his children: Shirley (Will Stalley), Ken, Harry and Gerry (Regan Brown); his grand-children: Danny and Jaime; Charles and Kevin; his brothers: Ronald (Liliane Simard), Michel (Marie Paquet), Robert (Lise Bergeron), Raymond (Françoise Hébert), his sisters: Doris (Fred Lamont), Lily Métivier, Barbara Alexandre; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Aline Simard, Antoinette Gaudreau (Georges Bédard), Mariette Gaudreau, Freddy Gaudreau, Gérard Gaudreau (Yvette Fleury), André Gaudreau, Claude Tremblay, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
