Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Alvin (Davey) Davidson passed away at the Sherbrooke Hospital on Dec. 7, 1978 in his 62nd year. He was born on August 14, 1917, at Kinnear's Mills. Que., the eldest son of the late Alfred Davidson and his wife Mae Henderson.
Moving to Sawyerville, Que., at an early age with his parents, he attended Sawyerville school and later was employed by the International Cooperage Co.
On July 18, 1940, he joined the Royal Rifles at Bury, Que. and was stationed at Valcartier. Que., and Sussex, NB and in October of 1941 left for the South Pacific and was a prisoner of war for four years and nine months. Arriving home in Oct. 1945 he was discharged in Jan. 1946.
In June 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Ewing and of this union, one daughter, Betty, was born.
Moving to Beardmore, Ont. in 1951, where he was employed by the Brompton Pulp and Paper Co. and later employed by Leitch Gold Mines Essay Office. Returning home to Sawyerville in 1966, he bought a small restaurant, and due to ill health, retired and moved to Sherbrooke, where he lived until his death.
In failing health the past few months, he entered the Sherbrooke Hospital on Oct. 12 and was also a patient at the CHU, being transferred back to the Sherbrooke Hospital where he passed away on Dec 7.
The funeral was held on Sat Dec. 9 at the Webster Cass Funeral Home, Lennoxville. The service was conducted by the Rev. Canon Awcock and attended by many relatives, friends and comrades of the Hong Kong Veterans Association. The bearers were comrades John Stoddard, Cliff Robinson, Rene Bedard, Elwin Herring, Allan Kelso and Eric Batley. Prayers were conducted at the graveside by Rev. Canon Awcock and the HK Veterans service by comrade Lloyd Doull. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Dorothy, daughter Betty and son-in-law, George Beaulieu, grandsons Richard, Gary and David, mother, Mrs. Mae Anderson, Sawyerville, sister Florence, Mrs. Gerald Dillon and family, brother Clifford of Thunder Bay, Ont. who was unable to attend the funeral due to the serious illness of his wife Islay. His brother William predeceased him in February, 1978.
Friends and relatives attending the funeral were from Huntingdon, Cowansville, Knowlton, Drummondville, Richmond, Windsor Mills, Bishopton, Bury, Island Brook, Cookshire, Sawyerville, Lennoxville and Sherbrooke.
