Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Earl Lasenba Killed When Car And Truck Collide Near Bury
Earl Lasenba 36 a Lingwick area farmer, father of three children, including a 4-months-old baby girl was killed at 2:30 yesterday afternoon at Ord's Corner, half a mile from Bury, when the car he was driving was struck by a truck owned and operated by Maurice Lamontagne, of Magog.
Lamontagne was driving to St. Luziger with a load of grain when on reaching the curve on the road in Gould he collided almost head on with the automobile driven by Lasenba. The driver of the said he tried to avoid the collision, but to no avail. "I think the driver of the car fell asleep at the wheel", Lamontagne said.
Lasenba, who was a prisoner in Hong Kong during the war, was killed instantly. Dr. A. Lepine, of Cookshire, who was called on the scene attributed death to skull fracture. The victim's left arm was also fractured, said Dr. Lepine.
First to reach the scene of the crash was Constable Newton McLeod, of Bury, who investigated and called the Provincial Police. He said that the car was completely demolished.
Lasenba was reported to have been headed for Bury where he was to turn his car over to the local garage for repairs.
The victim was married to the former Kathleen Judge, of Bury. The children are: Betty 10, Stanley 8, and Janet 4 months.
A coroner's inquest to investigate the accident will be held today in Bury.
