Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Leonard Doiron- Village's first mayor mourned - November 8, 1998 the light of a great Atholville pioneer faded. His family, his Christian community, the youth, the development of his village, his French culture as well as his daily work at the Fraser Pulp Company were the areas where he so generously gave of himself. Through his beliefs and hard work, Mr. Doiron's life bore much fruit: A family of 9 children and a wife Dora whom he profoundly loved and respected. His family, today seek to follow his example of generosity by joining and participating in different organizations. Mr. Doiron's wisdom was rooted deeply in his Christian community where he found there, the strength of his faith and the qualities of a Christian leader devoted to the needs of others. We could see him in the midst of many committees like the 'Ligue du Sacré Coeur' etc... Loving his children and concerned about their development and the youth of his community, he joined many organizations that had the youth at heart. Some of these organizations were: Boy Scouts, minor hockey and Home & School etc... In 1958, Mr. Doiron joined as a member of the district local improvement committee which he became president in 1965. The mandate of that committee was to develop and maintain an adequate water and sewage system for the region, the acquisition of street lights as well as the planning of the incorporation of Atholville as a Village. November 14, 1966, the region of Atholville was incorporated and became the village of Atholville Inc. and on Dec. 14th, 1966, Mr. Doiron became their 1st mayor. During his first mandate, due to his initiative and the support of the council, the village of Atholville built a Town Hall. Mr. Doiron was also member of the Atholville Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35. He was a Hong Kong veteran. With the help and support of his fellow comrades, they worked hard towards the acquisition of a public swimming pool. Mr. Doiron was also a member of 'L'age d'or' of Atholville. He also was very proud to have worked for 33 years for the Fraser Pulp Company. The funeral of Mr. Doiron was held Remembrance Day, November 11th at the 'Notre Dame de Lourdes' church of Atholville.
