Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Albert Rose was born in Nouvelle Quebec on September 29, 1916 to Frederick Rose & Mary Evelyn (nee Pratt) Rose. He had one older sister Phyllis Rose, (who was married to Harold Main) and a half sister Gertrude Gough (who was married to Peter Gordon Coughlan). After his father died his mother married Francis Gough who raised him and his sister. Albert went to a one room school in Nouvelle West and lived there until he joined the Royal Riffles in 1940 along with his brother-in-law Peter Coughlan and both were in Newfoundland together as well were sent overseas to Hong Kong together. He was captured and was a prisoner at Camp Sham Shui Po for the duration of the war. He returned home in the Autumn of 1945 where his mother, half sister and her children met him in Campbellton, New Brunswick at the train station. After returning from the war he met and married Jean Day who lived in Campbellton, New Brunswick. They had a family of three (3) children: Timothy (Tim) who was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Jonathon (Jon) who was born in Jonquière Québec & Daniel (Dan) was born in Cornwall Ontario. He left Campbellton and went to work at the Paper Mill in Chicoutimi, Québec. He would visit his half sister in Cornwall and about 1955 they decided they would move to Cornwall.
