Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Richard Shanley Mann- The funeral for the late Richard Shanley Mann was recently held from Riverview Funeral Home on January 11, 1995, officiated by Rev. Mark Barret and assisted by Paul Woodburn of Whitepine Baptist Church. Special musical selections were 'Under His Wing' and 'When My Life's Work Is Ended'. Soloist was Pal Woodburn. Organist was Gordon Horsman. Pallbearers were Wade MacDavid, Merle Lyons, Bill Irvine, Vernon Hoar, Henry Lyons, Norman Lyons, Graydon Irvine, Vincent Irvine, and Reggie Law. Active pallbearers were Blake Mann, Jamie Mann, Carl Mann, Jackie MacDavid, Clayton Allison, and Barry Mann. Family and friends attended from Mann Settlement, Que., Toronto, Campbellton, Tide Head, Bathurst, and Matapedia, Que. Special thanks to the many friends who sent floral tributes, donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital, nurses and doctors at The Moncton Hospital, Dr. Forbes, Riverview Funeral Home, Riverview Veterans' Association, Whitepine Baptist Church, and to all friends and neighbours who visited our home and gave food donations. Your many acts of kindness and love will never be forgotten.
