Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

The death of Weston Alfred Mann Occurred on Oct. 7, 1994 in the Campbellton Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Mann Settlement, Que., on Feb. 17, 1914, he was the son of the late Shanley and Mary (Irvine) Mann. He leaves to mourn his wife Isobel (Irvine), two daughters, Phyllis (Jackie) McDavid and Carolyn Mann (Ron) Babin, two grandchildren Wayde (Eva) McDavjd and Melissa Babin; three sisters, Margaret Irvine, Mann's Mountain, Doris Keays, Campbellton and Norma (Arnold) Lyons, Scarborough, Ont; one brother, Richard (Wanda), Riverview. He was predeceased by two brothers Cecil (Margaret) and William (Bill) of Mann Settlement; one sister Vivian (Paul) Jomphe, Mississauga Ont. He leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. He joined the Royal Rifles of Canada in 1940 and was captured by the Japanese during the fall of Hong Kong on Dec. 25, 1941. He was a prisoner of war until the war ended in 1945. He was employed by Cold spring Fishing Camp for many years, serving his superiors faith fully. He was an adherent of the Mann Settlement United Baptist Church, serving it well, and was a very community minded individual. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Maher's Funeral Home. The funeral was held from the chapel on Monday, Oct. 10, with Rev. Terry Brewer, assisted by Rev. Eugene Lanctin, officiating. Joan Lyons was organist with Rev. Dan Jamer, soloist, singing 'Farther Along'. Selections sung were 'When My Life's Work Is Ended,' 'Beyond The Sunset,' and 'Abide With Me.' Nephew Carl Mann gave a moving eulogy. Active pallbearers were Russell Irvine Jr., Ian Mann, Alvin Mann, Jack Lyons, Bertie Irvine, Wayne Keays and Alfred Harvey. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Keays, Doug Martin, Arnold Ross, Freddie Kelly, Phil Dodderidge, Henry Lyons, Albert Babin, Russell Irvine Sr., Norman Lyons, Lance Ross, Clem Blaquiere, Barry Mann and Joe Bujold. Interment was held in the Mann Settlement Community Cemetery with reception following at the family home.
