Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Pte. Harry Victor MacIver of Scotstown, like his brother-in-law Bill, enlisted into the Royal Rifles of Canada, at the age of 19-years-old. Harry was also a Prisoner of War in Hong Kong from December 25th 1941, until early in 1943, when Harry and some of the other prisoners were transferred to a prison camp in Japan, where they stayed until August 1945.
MACIVER, Harry -- At the Sherbrooke Hospital on August 11, 1994, in his 74th year. Harry Maclver, beloved husband of Mary Whitingham. Dear father of Gary (Christine), Janet (Roy Sears), Peter (Vivian), Nancy (Danny Connor), Laura and Thelma (Troy Murdoch). Much loved grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Brother of Jessie Herring (Bill) of Bury, Que.
Resting at the Cass Funeral Home, 6 Belvidere St., Lennoxville, Que., where friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 1994 at 2 p.m., Mrs. Margaret Williams officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Scotstown, Que.
