Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

It was the same ship that took him to Hong Kong (The Prince Robert) that brought him home. He actually made a pact with some of his comrades on their way home that, in honour of the Prince Robert bringing them back home, they would all name their first born son Robert. My grandfather followed through on his pact, his firstborn being a boy that is named Robert (or Uncle Bob, to me). Submitted by Renes grandson Jami Tatlock January 2018

Received from A. Wasson, descendant in Jan 2018:
I was on your page and noticed some spelling errors in names of descendants. I’m a descendant. I’m very well acquainted with this family.
-Jeannette is married to Jim/James. He is also known as “Jimmy” rather than “Jime”. -Jeannette and Jim’s daughter is Jami, rather than Jamie. (yes, they had a James and a Jami for children, that’s not a mistake). -16 Oct 1911 was the DOB for Rene.- He went by Rene, but his name was actually Iréné. (He dropped the I because it was seen as a female’s name.) His wife’s middle name wasn’t included on either site, but it was Pauline. (Mary Pauline Courtney, originally of St. John’s NFLD.)
