Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

We all knew him as "husband" to "Grandma Leone, "Father" to Terry, John, Kevin and Doug, "Grandfather" to 14 and "Great Grandfather" to 10.
He was loving, understanding, heroic and a leader. Born July 1st 1917 as the middle child of 16 siblings. At the age of 21 he decided to join the army and was sent to Hong Kong shortly after. While fighting for what be believed in he was captured....and brought to a concentration camp, where he was placed in a dark dreary hole for 4 years of his life without seeing any daylight.
In 1946 he met Leone Murray and her 4 boys.....and automatically took them under his wing as "husband" and "father". In 1952 he travelled to Windsor Ontario to work and build a future for his family. Leone and her 4 boys followed in 1953. He worked and retired at the age of 65 years old, out of the Windsor Salt Mines, where he was better know as Davey Crocket.
Some of us will remember him sitting in his rocking chair having a beer, some of us will remember him whistling and singing the way only he could do, but one thing is for sure...we will always remember JOHN EDWARD BUJOLD as a remarkable "HUSBAND", "DAD" AND "POP".
