Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

The death of Charles A. Mahoney of 44 Centennial Drive, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital Saturday morning following a period of failing health.
Mr. Mahoney was born at Flatlands, a son of the late George and Bridget (Firth) Mahoney. He had served in Hong Kong with the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War and was a prisoner of war for four years in Japan. He was a member of Lancaster Branch No. 69, Royal Canadian Legion.
He had been employed as a heating technician for 25 years, until his retirement seven years ago because of ill health.
He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha Smith; one son, Robert, of Saint John; two brothers, Norbert of Campbellton and Dwight of Moncton; two sisters, Sr. Hellena Mahoney of Pittsburgh and Eileen, Mrs. Herbert Cooling, of Flatlands; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.
The body is resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, from where the funeral will be held this morning at 11:45 to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for funeral mass at 12 noon. Interment will take place in the Field of Honor, Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.

WWII Royal Rifles of Canada: Out of the 962 members of this Regiment, 30 were part of the Irvine clan- served in Hong Kong- survivors became Japanese POW's- 10 died.
Charles Anthony Mahoney was the seventh child of George and Bridget Mahoney. Charles served with the RRC in Hong Kong. He became a Japanese POW in Hong Kong where he was wounded. They had one son.
