Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

CLARICOATES, Ronald Hugh - Veteran of WWII Hong Kong POW Retired from Pay Corp, CFB Kingston Retired from Limestone Board of Education, Kingston - Peacefully at the Helen Henderson Care Centre, Amherstview on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Murdena (Boy) for 56 years. Loving father of Elaine Elizabeth 'Becky' (Wayne) Snider. Sadly missed by grandchildren Christopher Mellon and Amy Snider. Survived by his brother Derek of Wales. Dear brother-in-law to Isabelle (Boy) and Eddy Echenberg. Predeceased by his son Philip; sisters Eileen Lee and Iris Muggleton and one brother Robert Claricoates, all of England. Sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the GORDON F. TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOMES, 435 Davis Drive (Centennial Drive and Taylor-Kidd Blvd.) on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm. Rev. Jim Gordon officiating. A private family interment will be held on Monday at Cataraqui Cemetery. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Kingston Humane Society in memory of Ronald.
