Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

MR. EMILE DEMERS, OF RICHMOND Richmond, Dec. 13-The funeral service for the late Emile Demers was held in French Protestant Church, Melbourne, with Rev. J. Smith, officiating in French and he was assisted by Rev. Roy P. Stafford, of Sherbrooke, who spoke briefly to the mourners and friends in English.
Mrs. G. O. Malboeuf presided at the organ and the choir sang, "Safe In The Arms of Jesus." The hymns sung during the service were "Nearer My God To Thee," "Abide With Me" and "Rock Of Ages."
Interment took place in the Maple Grove Cemetery, where the members of the local Legion attended in a body and conducted a very impressive and dignified service. The Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Comrade Leo Delaney. A firing party was in attendance and fired the salute.
The Honorary Pall Bearers were Lt.-Col. W. A. Bishop, D.S.O., E.D., Major E. E. Denison, E.D., Capt. E. L Hurd, ED., C.C.M., C. Royer, Sgt. E. Bernard, M.M. The bearers were C.S.M. C. Standish, D.C.M., Sgt. E. Bennett, M.M., Sgt. W. Harlow, Rfm. L. Findlay, Rfm. R. Ross, Rfm. A. Cailso.
The deceased was a Hong Kong Veteran and the following veterans attended the service: C.S.M. W. R. Parker, C.Q.M. I. W. Smith, Sgt. J. E. Badger, Cpl. G. Findlay, Cpl. G. Heath, Cpl. L. T. S. Dowell, Cpl. M. Nicholson, Rfm. K. G. Beattie, Rfm. Douval, Rfm. J. Lachance, W. Herring, Rfm. J. A. R. Parenteau, Rfm. J. Provencher.
Among the mourners were Mr. and Mrs. J. Harriman, of Ulverton, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Demers and Mrs. Audrey Richards, of Drummondville, Mrs. A. Norris, of Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Lemoine and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Brouillette of Granby, Dr. Roger Nadeau and Mrs. Nadeau, Mr. and Mrs. P. Gagnon, and Mrs. O. Lariviere, of Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Galbraith, of Melbourne, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Demers, of Asbestos.
Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Conniers, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Fleurent, Mr. and Mrs. D. Hibbard, of Drummondville.

This community was shocked to hear of the death of Mr. Emile Demers, of Ulverton, a Hong Kong veteran of World War II. Sympathy is extended to the sisters and brother and other relatives in their sorrow.

The sincere sympathy of this community is extended to the relatives and friends of the late Mr. Emile Demers. He was former pupil of the Ulverton School and had spent a great deal of his life in Ulverton. During World War II he joined the Royal Rifles of Canada and went to Japan, where he was a prisoner of war. On his return to Quebec he made his home with his sister, Mrs. J. Harriman.
