Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

CHARLES PATRICK BRADY HONG KONG VETERAN
Suddenly on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Honore-Mercier Hospital, St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, age eighty-two. Beloved husband of Elsie Collins, prede-ceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth M. Brady (nee Lugsdin), mother of his six surviving children, Bill (Pearl), Kathleen (Brian), Carole (Robert), Patricia (Ralph), Lorne (Elizabeth) and Deborah (Robert). Grandfather to Sarah, Ian, Carly. Ryan, Charles. Owen, Elizabeth, Sabrina. Rachel, Matthew, Brittany and Samuel. Survived by his sisters, Patricia and Rosenda, predeceased by his siblings, Bill, Patrick. Frank. Kathleen and Georgina.
Charlie Brady was a proud Canadian and Quebecer. He was the National President of the Hong Kong Veterans Association of Canada from 1968 to 1979. He worked tirelessly for the benefit of his fellow Hong Kong Veterans and other Veterans across Canada. Charles Brady was a Founding Member of the National Council of Veterans. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was involved in activities on a Branch and Provincial Level. Fondly remembered by the residents of the Richelieu Valley and especially Otterburn Park for his organization of the Canada Day Celebration for many years.
Friends may pay respects at Demers Funeral Home, 881 Rue du Laval, Beloeil, Quebec on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame du Bon-Conseil Church, Gervais and Chemin des Patriotes, Otterburn Park, Quebec.
