Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Douglas Martin of Campbellton passed away on Oct. 9, 1998. Born on June21, 1922 in Campbellton, he was the son of Mace Martin and Mary (Martin) Graham. Martin was a CNR worker for 33 years and was a part of the Royal Rifles of Canada. He was a prisoner of war in Japan from 1941-1945. Martin attended the Bethel Pentecostal Church and is survived by his wife Hazel (Godin) Martin, his daughter Janice (Michael) Kirk of Pickering, Ont., his son Kenneth (Kathy) Martin of Brantford, Ont., his sister Beulah (George) Duff, of Alma, Ont., and his brother Leslie (Jessie) Martin of Barrie, Ont. l-le is also survived by his granddaughters Rhonda (Peter) Miller and Michelle Martin and two great grandchildren Joshua and Amber Miller. He was predeceased by his brother Barry and his son Gary. Service was held at Maher's Funeral Chapel on Oct. 12 and interment was at the Rural Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leonard Legacy, Alfie Allard, Gerald Bernier, Prudent Robichaud, John Allard and Louis Doucet. Honourary pallbearers were Fred Kelly, Reginald Law, Robert Olscamp, Pat Bujold, John Paul Allard, Albert LeBlanc, Lewis Moores, Cecil Aucoin, Douglas Malley and Pat O'Connel.
