Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Born in Winslow (Stornoway), Estrie Region, Quebec, Canada, Cecil K. MacAulay of Detroit, Mich.
The death of Cecil Kenneth MacAulay occurred at Holy Cross Hospital, Detroit, Mich. on April 5, 1974. He was born in Winslow, Que. son of the late Donald B. MacAulay and his wife the late Clara Bell (McGill). As a young man he resided in Detroit, Mich. He was married to Amelia Price who predeceased him in 1955. They had one son, Donald. He returned to Scotstown in the early thirties where he was employed by the Guelph Patent Cask Company.
In 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Rifles of Canada and served overseas in Hong Kong where he was held prisoner of war for approximately four years. Following an honourable discharge he returned to Detroit, where he married Helen Casey.
The funeral was held on April 8 from the Kingsey and Garrett Funeral Home, Detroit. The interment was in White Chapel Cemetery, Detroit.
His [sic.] survived by his wife, Helen, son, Donald and his wife Beverley (Batley), two stepdaughters, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters, Sue MacAulay of Hartford, Conn., and Murdeena (Mrs. E. E. Denison), Lennoxville.

SGT. CECIL MacAULAY, of Scotstown, and of the Royal Rifles of Canada, who has been reported safe in Hong Kong. Born in the Middle District near Lake Megantic, Que., Sgt. MacAulay is a son of the late Donald B. MacAulay and his wife, formerly Clara MacGill. He was born on November 4, 1903, and educated in Lingwick.
Married in Detroit in October, 1927, to Amelia B. Price, of Newfoundland, he has one son. His mother and two sisters, Mrs. E. E. Denison, and Miss Susan D. MacAulay, reside at Sherbrooke.
