Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Frank McColm Relatives and friends throughout this district learned with deep regret of the death of Frank McColm at the Notre Dame de Chartres Hospital, Maria P.Q. on Thursday, April 25, 1974. Mr. McColm was born on May 14, 1913, the son of Frank and Isabel (Ross) McColm. He was a Hong Kong veteran and at the time of his death, a resident of New Carlisle, P.Q. He is survived by his wife, the former Isabel Barter, four daughters- Mrs. Gerald Scott (Carrol) of New Carlisle, Frances of Mount Wright, P.Q., Mrs. Richard Stymiest (Eva) of Campbellton, N.B., and Rose at home; and grandson Rodney Scott; one sister, Mrs. Collie Harrison (Hilda) of Ajax, ON, two brothers, Charles and Stewart McColm of New Richmond, P.Q. The remains rested at the Gospel Chapel, New Carlisle from where the funeral service was conducted by Mr. Alex Irvine on April 28. The pianist was Miss Joy Flowers and the hymns sung were Marvelous Grace, and what a friend We Have in Jesus. The soloist, Mr. Robert ?? rendered, Holy, Holy is What the Angels Sing. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Daldain and Alexander Joseph. Active pallbearers were Robert Barter, Philip Doddridge, Dick Keays, Goldie Ramier, Eldon MacWhirter and Lance Ross, all of whom are Hong Kong veterans. The many beautiful floral tributes, memoriam donations to the Gideon Bibles, the Bible Society, Respiratory Fund at the Maria hospital, the Ontario Bible College, the Cancer Society, and the numerous sympathy cards, all attested to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Among the many friends who attended from a distance were Mr. & Mrs. Bert Young, Oshawa, ON. Mrs. Young is a niece of the late Mr. McColm. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Mr. Rene LeBlanc, New Richmond. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Gullens Brook, P.Q.
