Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Wilfred D. Smith The death of Wilfred Duncan Smith occurred at his home in Glen Levit on Sunday, July 20. He was 75 years old at the time of his death. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years - Stella Stewart, his parents, Donald and Mary Smith, one sister and five brothers. He leaves to mourn his daughters- Gail and Karen, his sons Randy and Larry all of Glen Levit; four granddaughters, seven grandsons and three great-grandsons; two sisters and one brother. He served in the Royal Rifles and as a prisoner of war, he was a proud member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association. He enjoyed working with his hands and was well-known for his talent with leather work. Legion service was held on Tuesday, July 22 with members of the Royal Canadian Legion. Funeral services were held at Maher's Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 23 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ray Kraglund of United Church officiating. A choir composed of family friends rendered the hymns. A beautiful eulogy was delivered by family friend Katherine Sorby. Interment was in Glen Levit United Church cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Troy Boddle, Robert Boddle, Patrick Arseneau, Roderick Arseneau, Mark Arseneau and Ronnie Firth. Honorary pallbearers were Garth Fitzgerald, Bill Thompson, George Wilmot, Graham Boudreau, Scott Smith and Ernie Noble, with members of the Hong Kong Veterans.
