Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

His full name at birth was Lorne Malcolm Renwick MacDonald. Son of John MacDonald and Eunice Regina Mooney, of Scotstown, Québec. Husband of Helen Margaret Scott, of Scotstown, Québec. He served with the 7/11 Hussars - NPAM - from 1938 to 1940 and was integrated in the regular forces of the same regiment. Deployed to the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada on 2 September 1940. He served in Québec, in New Brunswick, in Newfoundland with Force W, in Hong Kong with Force C and in Japan as prisoner of war. His death was recorded on 5 August 1943 and he was buried in the USAF Cemetery No 1 in Yokohama, Japan, Allied Plot, row 10, grave 20. He was exhumed by the 38th Australian War Graves Unit on 26 September 1946 and reburied Yokohama War Cemetery.

Lorne died August 5 1943 of catarrh and pneumonia which he contracted in a POW camp in Japan. His rank was that of CQ MS in the Royal Rifles of Canada, he died in Camp F5B Ormine Coal Mine, Fukuoke Japan and is buried in grave BE1 in the Yokohana Common Wealth War Cemetary in Yokohama, Japan. He was only married 10 days when he was shipped out. He never did see his wife again.
