Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Former Prisoner Of Japs Welcomed Home At Apohaqui
Rfmn. I. Gordon Watters Spent Almost Four Years In Japan
APOHAQUI, Oct. 22-(Special)- Looking fit and robust, Rfmn. I. Gordon Watters received a royal welcome on his arrival home after almost four years in a Japanese prison camp.
"I made out fairly good during the time I was a prisoner," he said, in speaking of his experiences, but he had suffered considerably, along with others of his group. "At first we slept on concrete, but later conditions were improved. The Canadian medical men with us were a splendid help and too much cannot be said for their fine work on our behalf."
For three years after the fall of Hong Kong no word had been received by relatives of the fate of Rfmn. Watters, but through an indirect source in 1944 word came to his father, Arthur W. Watters, that he was alive.
Rfmn. Watters, one of four brothers in the services, was born in Saint John, where the family resided for some time. Other brothers who have served the Allied cause are Staff-Sgt. Weyman Watters, of the American Army; Pte. George Watters, R.C.A.S.C., still overseas, and Pte. Vernon Watters, with the Army of Occupation in Germany.
His wife, whom he married shortly before leaving for overseas, resided for a time with his parents here, leaving later for her native Newfoundland. She was expected in New Brunswick for his arrival home, but word came she was ill at her home. Rfmn. Watters has since left for Newfoundland.
