Transportation - Home Base to Hong Kong
Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Obituary / Life Story
HUTCHINSON Peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital, London on Monday, January 19, 2004, Gordon, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Frances Hutchinson, in his 81st year. Loving father of Tom and his wife Regine of St. Albert, Alberta, Betty Nickerson of Barrie, Ontario, Ann Higgins and her husband Carl, Dan and his wife Geraldine and Tim and his companion Linda, all of London. Dear- brother of Georgie .Thorne of Fredericton, N.B., Gertrude Scriven of London, Myrtle Foster of Darling Island, N.B., Florence Anderson of Newcastle, N.B., Olive -Jones of Moncton, N.B., Mable Little -of St. John, N.B., Bill of St. John, N.B., Murray of Haliburton, Howard of St. John, N.B., Fred of Norton, N.B. Donald of Grand Bay, N.B. Predeceased by his brothers Harold, Lorne, Ken and Charlie Hutchinson. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitors will be received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London on Thursday morning from 10 o'clock until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon. Cremation with entombment in Holy Family Mausoleum - St. Peter's Cemetery, London. Donations to the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association, c/o Sandi Cameron, 290 Centrepointe Drive, Nepean, Ontario, K2G 5Y6 would be appreciated.
