Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Born in Sandy Point, St. Kitts, West Indies on September 8, 1914, Edwin peacefully passed away on Friday, June 29, 2001 at Ste. Anne Veterans Hospital. He was eighty-six years of age. Edwin is survived by his beloved daughter Maureen Rodrigues-Labreche, as well as his loving sister Maureen Uddenberg, his brother Jerrold Rodrigues, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mr. Rodrigues courageously served with the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada, "D" Company in WWII and saw battle overseas in the Far East. He saw, captured and endured atrocities as a prisoner of war in Hong Kong for 3 1⁄2 years. After his return back to Canada, he married his attending nurse, Ada M. Oak and lived out a comfortable life in Montreal for the remainder of his life. His final resting place is at Lakeshore Cardinal Funeral Home, 560 Lakeshore Drive, Dorval. Funeral service at St. Edmund of Canterbury Church on Friday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. thence to Notre Dame des Neiges Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the V.O.N. (Victorian Order of Nurses) or to "Leave Out Violence" (L.O.V.E.) 514-938-0006. Love, Valour, Compassion. Visitation Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
