Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Death of John McGrath is Deeply Regretted- Relatives and friends here learned with deep regret of the death of John McGrath which occurred at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital here on Friday. August 29, 1975 after a lengthy Illness. He was 54 years old. Mr. McGrath was born in Richardsville, N.B. the son of the late Peter and. the late Delema Mercier) McGrath. He served as a member of the Royal Rifles of Canada in World War ll and was a prisoner of war In Hong Kong for 4 years. Mr. McGrath was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 19 and the Hong Kong Veterans' Association. He Is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Le Maitre; five daughters, Jane, Margaret. Elizabeth, Edith and Charlotte all of this city; four sons, Real, John, Stephen, and Perry, all of this city. Also surviving are eight sisters, Mrs. Norbert Allard (Judy) of Balmoral, N.B., Mrs. Harold Roussie (May) of Montreal, P.Q. Mrs. Alice Parker of Richardsville, N.B., Mrs. Harold Essiembre (Lorraine) of McLeods, N.B., Mrs. Isobelle Kerr, Richardsville, N.B., Mrs. George Fugere (Evangeiine) of Dalhousie, N.B., Mrs. Boner Law (Mary) of Flatlands, . N.B. and Mrs. Reggie Russell (Noella) of Dalhousie, NB.: four brothers, Albert, Leonard, Romeo and Raymond, all of Richardsville, N.B., and a large number of nieces and nephews. The remains rested at Maher's Funeral Home. Funeral service was held at St Thomas Aquinas Church on Monday. September 1, 1975, at 10:00 am. with Rev. Raymond Savoie celebrating Requiem High Mass with the church choir in attendance. The lecture was read by Andrew Quigley, a former member of the RCAF Chatham and the homily was given by Father Savoie. Honorary pallbearers were all members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch here and In Atholville. Active pallbearers were Reggie Law, Fred Kelly, Bonar Law, Harold Essiembre, Leonard McGrath (a brother) and Jos. M Blais Jr. Interment was in St. Thomas Aquinas Church Cemetery.
