Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Russell G. Lancaster passed away suddenly at his home in Chatham, Ont., Friday evening Dec. 22, 1972 at the age of 52. He was born near South Durham, Que., the second son of the late George and Vicky Lancaster, being one of a family of eleven children.
He worked in Richmond as a young man before enlisting in the Canadian Army in World War II, where he served with the Royal Rifles and was a prisoner of war in Hong Kong for several years.
He was married to Doris Jeannette Lloyd of Windsor, Ont, in April 1947, who passed away after a painful lingering illness in October 1968. He is survived by their three sons Brian and wife Valerie, and Ralph of Chatham, Ont., Paul and his wife Caroline of Merlin, Ont., besides a six month old grandson Chris. Also he leaves to mourn his loss his eight sisters Mrs. Hilda Henderson, Mrs. Georgina Lancaster, Mrs. Lorimer Willey (Muriel), Mrs. Douglas Biggs (Gladys) and only brother Wilfred, and a sister-in-law Mrs. Leroy Lancaster (Emily) all of Richmond, Mrs. Ernest Ingram (Irene), Mrs. John Philips (Hazel), Mrs. Roy Davidson (Beulah) and Mrs. Donald MacArthur (Winnifred) of Montreal East, and their husbands, also many nieces and nephews. One brother Leroy predeceased him in May, 1967.
Mr. Lancaster had been a resident of Chatham since 1952 where he was employed as a grain inspector at the elevators there. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an Honorary Member of the Color Guard, Comrades of Branch 28 assembled for a Memorial Service at the funeral chapel on Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral service was held in the Kent Chapel of the T. Brady Hinnigan Funeral Home, Tuesday, Dec. 26 at 1:30 p.m. with Canon R.M. Jones of Christ Church, Chatham, officiating. Committal service was in the Legion Memorial Chapel and burial in Remembrance Field, Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
Mr. Ernest Lancaster and Mr. Wilfred Lancaster, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ingram of Montreal East, attended the funeral.
