Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

ELMER C SMITH of Rothsay Passed away suddenly at his winter residence in Crystal River, Florida on Thursday, March 19, 1987, in his 72nd year.
Beloved husband of Amy Hardacre, Dear father of Douglas Smith of Waterloo, Frazer Smith of Calgary, Alberta, Catherine Dickert of Wroxeter and Beverly Stoddart of Elmira. He is also survived by his mother Dorothy Smith, four brothers and five sisters, all of Nova Scotia, and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father Aubrey Smith, three brothers and one sister.
Friends may pay their respects on Saturday, March 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home in Palmerston where Rev. Kenneth Tanner will conduct the funeral and committal services in the funeral home Chapel on Monday, March 23 1987 at 2:00 p.m. Spring interment Derryadd Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Brandi No. 409 or Palmerston and District Hospital would be appreciated. Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 409 of Palmerston will conduct a Legion Service in the Funeral Home on Sat., Mar. 21 at 9 p.m.

Prisoners-of-War Given Hong Kong Badges
Hong Kong Patch, "H. K." in gold lettering on a red background, denoting four years' internment in a Jap camp, is displayed by Cpl. Elmer E. Smith en route home to Scotsburn, N. S. The badge is given to the men arriving at the west coast. The badge has appeared in Fredericton.
