Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

DOIRON Mr. John Leopold Doiron passed away quietly in his sleep on Sunday April 18, 2004. at the age of 83 years. Beloved husband of Mrs. Alice Doiron of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory six children. Irvin (Audrey Rose) Doiron of Blackie. Alberta. Glenda (Brian) Bolger and Mae Bolger all of Medicine Hat, Norma (Glen) Fuchs of Calgary, Cletus (Jean Dollimont) Doiron and Kent (Lori) Doiron all of Medicine Hat; 15 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; one brother, Lionel (Shirley) Doiron of Hope River, P.E.I.; four sisters, Estelle Doiron of Hope River, P.E.I., Lena Quinn of Peterborough, Ontario, Louise Larkin and Yvonne (Rollie) Larkin all of New Glasgow. P.E.I. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Angus and Mary Doiron; four brothers, Vincent, Ivan, Joe, and Edward and by his sister Imelda. John was born on May 23, 1920 in Charlottetown, P.E.l. At the age of 19 he joined the armed forces and was a prisoner of war in a Japanese prison camp for three years and eight months. He returned safely home to Prince Edward Island and married his sweetheart Alice on March 4, 1946. For many years he worked as a carpenter before moving to Alberta in 1965 where John eventually started his own business, John's Roofing. Dad will be fondly remembered for his keen sense of humour and his strong work ethic. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday evening, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m and on Wednesday at Holy Family Parish from 9:30 to 10:25 a.m. Family and Friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (Christ the King Roman Catholic Church 1101 Queen Street SE) on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. David Meadows celebrant. Officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Robertson Memorial Branch #17 will conduct a poppy service for their departed comrade. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Holy Family Parish Building Fund 1101 Queen Street SE, Medicine Hat, T1A 2K3.
