Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

MCFAWN, LEWIS ROBERT The death of Lewis Robert McFawn, husband of the late Eva (Sharpe) McFawn, occurred on Thursday, August 1st, 2002 at his home in Fredericton. Born in Fredericton, he was son of the late William and Mamie (Briggs) McFawn. He was retired from the Department of National Defense - Civil Service and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4 Fredericton and the Hong Kong Veterans Association of Canada (Maritime and Gaspesian Branch). Mr. McFawn is survived by four sons Robert (Lorraine) of Selkirk, Man., Lewis Gordon (Debra) of Saskatoon, Sask., Roger (Dawn) of Noonan, NB, and Andrew McFawn of Toronto, ON; three daughters Anita MacLean (Larry) of Noonan, NB, Brenda Norman (Todd) of Lower Sackville, NS, and Bonnie Sue Barlow (Nelson) of Fredericton, NB; 18 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; three sisters Mae Hoben, Pauline Cail (Carroll), and Dot Lyons all of Fredericton; two brothers Fred (Olive) of Hamilton, ON and Charlie of Toronto, ON; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. McFawn was predeceased by two brothers Lloyd and Doug McFawn. Visitations will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton North on Saturday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 pm from York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel. Rev. Dr. Barry Craig will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sunny Bank Cemetery. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, Fredericton will conduct a tribute service Saturday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home. For those who wish, remembrances to the War Amps or to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family

Rfmn. McFawn, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William McFawn, Wilsey Road, has been a prisoner of the Japanese since the fall of Hong Kong on Christmas Day, 1941, and is now safe in the hands of the Allies. He enlisted at the age of 17 with the Carleton and Yorks but was left behind on account of his age. He enlisted with the Royal Rifles of Canada and went overseas and saw fighting before the Carleton and Yorks got into it. His parents are anxiously awaiting word as to his arrival in Canada.
