Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

AROOSTOOK JUNCTION - The death of Leighton O. Lockhart of Aroostook Junction occurred unexpectedly in Plaster Rock.
Born in Wapske, 61 years ago, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lockhart.
During the Second World War he served with the Royal Rifles of Canada and spent four years as prisoner of war in Hong Kong. On his return to civilian life he was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway on the Woodstock Division until unable to work due to an automobile accident.
In 1946 he married Ruby Lawley, Aroostook Junction, and resided in Aroostook Junction the remainder of his life.
Mr. Lockhart was an adherent of the Baptist Church and was member of Perth-Andover Branch 36 Royal Canadian Legion.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Wayne, at home; two daughters (Elsie) Mrs. Earl Dee, Aroostook Junction and (Penny) Mrs. Bowmaster, Aroostook Junction; two brothers, Winston, Fredericton and Whellan, Keene, N. H.; two sisters Mrs. Flora Cox, Keene, N. H. and Mrs. Waldo Foster, Fosterville; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The body rested at Moore's Funeral Home, Perth- Andover where funeral service was held with the Rev. Malcolm Stairs officiating.
Following the service a Legion service was conducted by Henry Manzer, president of Perth-Andover Branch 36 Royal Canadian Legion.
Pallbearers were Legion members Donald Moran, Norman Dee, Kinley Kelly, Aroostook Junction, James Darrah, Centreville, Henry Lyons, Matapedia, Que., and Louis MacFaron, Fredericton.
Entombment was in the receiving vault in Larleee Creek Cemetery, Perth, where interment will take place in the Spring.
Many floral tributes were received and donations were made to Memorial Funds and charitable organizations.
