Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

ETIENNE LAMBLIN - With thanksgiving for his life and love, but with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Etienne, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, who passed away at home with his loving family at his side, on February 24,1992. Etienne was born March 27, 1922 at his home in Eastland, east of Eriksdale. He spent his early years attending school at Stone Lake. At the age of 17, he joined the Army and served with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry and later transferred to the Signal Corps of the Winnipeg Grenadiers. He served overseas in the Pacific and was captured in Hong Kong and spent the next four years in a P.O.W. Camp in Japan.
Etienne was discharged in 1946 and married Peggy Vigfusson on April 2,1948 and they began their farming career in Lillesve, MB. They retired in 1988. They were blessed with three children, Kari, June and Debby. Etienne was a very active community member: Morning Star School Board, one of the 4-H Leaders for years, one of the driving forces of the Lundar Swimming Pool. Etienne was an avid hockey fan and supporter of all age groups involved in our community hockey program. Etienne was given an honorary lifetime membership from the Fisher Branch Hockey Association. Etienne drove school bus for 14 years and became very good friends with the children on his bus route. Etienne served on many Lundar Royal Canadian Legion Committees, including serving office of Vice President and then President until his untimely stroke on October 2,1989. In the years to follow, Etienne continued to show fortitude, strength and courage.
Etienne will be sadly missed by his long time partner "Buddy" (wife Peggy); son Kari and wife Janet Lamblin, their children, Giselle, Michelle and Christy of Lundar; daughter June and husband David Caldwell, their children, Joey, Doreen, Davy and Nicole of Fisher Branch; daughter Debby and husband Raymond (Dude) Chartrand, their children, Ronny and Randy of Lundar; sister-in-law Warda Lamblin; brother Pierre and wife Rita Lamblin; sister Marcelle and husband Ken Brooks; sister Gabrielle Unger; sister Rose and husband Gordon Perry of Winnipeg; sister Lise and husband Sam Sigurdsson of Lundar and sister Antoinette Pelequin of British Columbia; also many friends, relatives, nieces and nephews, who have experienced his generosity and who have been inspired by his enthusiasm throughout his life. He was predeceased by his mother Marie; father Robert Lamblin and brother John Lamblin; two grandchildren, Baby Caldwell and Baby Chartrand. The family would like to thank all the Home Care Team enabling Etienne to remain at home during his illness. Special thanks going out to Marilyn E., Rhonda M., Darlene L., Joan H. and Pat H. for all the pallative care in the last two months. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lundar Legion Hall, with Rev. Randy Rehbein officiating. Mr. Jalmar Erickson will delivery the Eulogy.
