Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

JAMES R. COOPER PASSES - Prisoner at Hong Kong, Lakehead Veteran Dies
A former Hong Kong prisoner, James Ross Cooper, 161 Peter street, Port Arthur, died in hospital Thursday afternoon after a six-month illness. He was 31.
Mr. Cooper enlisted in Sept., 1939, and served with the Cameron Highlanders. He later transferred to the Grenadiers and went overseas in 1941.
He was taken prisoner at Hong Kong on Christmas Day, 1941, and remained a prisoner for four years.
He was born in Winnipeg and married the former Florence Adam in St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Winnipeg. He came to Port Arthur six years ago.
After being employed by Wilmot and Siddall Grocery for three years, he became a partner in the firm two years ago. He was a member of the Port Arthur branch of the Canadian Legion and of the Native Sons of Canada.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, James, and a daughter, Gail. Three brothers, one sister and grandparents also survive.
The brothers are John of MontJoli, Quebec, and George and Kenneth, both of Winnipeg. The sister is Lorraine, Mrs. G. Stephen of Winnipeg. Grandparents are John Cooper and Mrs. Mary Brigham, both of Winnipeg.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Everest funeral chapel to Riverside cemetery for burial in the soldiers' plot. Rev. S. M. Craymer will officiate. The funeral will be under the direction of the Port Arthur branch of the Canadian Legion.
