Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Stanley Edwin Edgar passed away peacefully Monday, October 6, 1997 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
Born December 29, 1916 in Manitou, Manitoba. Stan lived and worked in St. Boniface for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires until his retirement in 1980, moving to Cochrane, Alta. Stan served overseas in the Second World War and was a member of the Norwood Legion for 44 years.
Stan was predeceased by his beloved wife Louella (Toots) in 1991; parents, May and John Edgar; brother John Edgar and sister Elsie Lawson. He is survived by his son Ronald Edgar and wife Florence of Winnipeg; and by daughter Mae Sauvé and husband Barry of Cochrane; grandchildren, Kerry Sauvé and wife Lisa of Calgary, Michael Sauvé of Cochrane; great-granddaughter Josephine Sauvé. Stan is also survived by his two sisters, Doris Bates (Les) of Ontario, and Clyde Wilson of La Riviere; brothers, George Edgar (Bella), Don Edgar (Betty); sisters and brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to the funeral service at P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St., Friday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. James Gray officiating. Viewing will take place half-hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
