Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

William Robert Adams was born to William Robert and Sophia Adams in Lossiemouth, Moray, Scotland on February 2, 1901. They had one son Ivor born in Scotland. In Scotland, during World War I, William served in France and Ireland with the Seaforth Highlanders (Imperial). When Ivor was five years old they came to Canada. He worked at Skinner Nursery in Roblin, Manitoba and later came to the Swan Valley and settled on NW 36-35-28W clearing the land with horses. On July 16, 1941, William enlisted with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in Winnipeg. December 25, 1941 he was taken prisoner in Hong Kong and spent the duration of the war as a prisoner in various camps. William worked in the kitchen war camps. He was known to sneak rice to fellow prisoners from the Swan Valley and Kenville areas. He survived multiple sicknesses due to camp conditions. William was discharged April 5, 1946 in Winnipeg and returned to Kenville, Manitoba. In the 50's William and Sophia moved to Churchill to work. They retired and moved to Kelowna in 1968. William passed away on April 15, 1973. Interment was in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.

H41656 William ADAMS. PTE. W. R. ADAMS transferring to the Winnipeg Grenadiers after enlisting July, 1941, in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, Pte Adams served with the regiment in Hong Kong. He was with the Seaforth Highlanders in the last war. His wife and son live In the Square Plains district, near Swan River, Man.
