Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

On Thursday, May 21, 1992 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, Dick Lewis, aged 75 years, of 430 Dufferin Ave., Selkirk, dearly beloved husband of Doris Lewis. Dick was born in Fisher River and lived his early years at Grand Marais, Man. During the war he served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and was a prisoner of war at Hong Kong for over four years. He was employed at Booth Fisheries for many years at Selkirk following the war and later was with the security department at Lower Fort Garry. Dick was a life member of both the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 42 and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Branch No. 151 and was also a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association. Besides his loving wife Doris, he is survived by two sisters, Muriel and Bella and his stepchildren Harvey, Rose and Charles Mann. Funeral service was held on Monday , May 25 at 11 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Rev. Peter Cain officiating. A prayer service and viewing was held in the chapel on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. His pallbearers were Doug Thomas, Val Sayer, Earl Paquin, Bert Brown, Harvey Mann and Ted Geard. Fellow members of the Legion formed an honor guard and held graveside rites at the burial at the St. Jude’s Anglican Church Cemetery at Grand Marais, Manitoba. The Gilbart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
