Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

ARTHUR MAURICE JOSEPH LOUSIER It is with great sadness that we announce the very peaceful passing of Art on Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Art is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doreen, his two children Richard Lousier and Denise Glencross (Bill), of British Columbia, and grandchildren Jason (Suzanne), Jordan (Mika) and Cory. He is also survived by his brother Earl Lousier of Langley, BC and many nephews, nieces and their families. Art was predeceased by his sons Maurice and Vaughn, sister Lorraine, and brothers Ernie and Donald. Art was born in Big River, Saskatchewan on May 15, 1920 and at a young age, his family moved to Bowsman, Manitoba where he lived until his 20s. Art enlisted in the Army during the Second World War and left for Hong Kong in October, 1941. Unfortunately he and other survivors of his regiment were taken prisoner just three weeks after arriving in Hong Kong and spent almost four years as POW's, mostly in Japan. After returning to Canada in 1945, Art married Doreen right away and spent his life in Winnipeg. He worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs trying to better the lives of veterans and was also active in the Hong Kong Veterans Association. Art loved to travel and he and Doreen especially enjoyed their cruises along the Caribbean and Mexican coastlines. He was an avid sports fan. He lost his sight late in life but that didn't slow him down any. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. He had a wonderful spirit that was appreciated by all. A celebration of Art's life will be held on Friday, June 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, please make a donation on Art's behalf to the CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3 and/or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
