Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Murray was born in Manitoba in 1923. He joined the Army and was stationed in Virden, Manitoba. Murray was a POW in Hong Kong and later was transfered to Japan. He was first married to Martha Werner and they had one son. In 1952 he married Joyce Alary of Wiseton SK. They lived and worked on his uncle Alex's farm in Sask. He was also in the Korean War. Murray and Joyce had 3 kids and 8 grandkids and 13 great grand kids. They were living in Abbotsford, BC and were just finishing a road trip visiting family and friends when Murray passed away in October in Canmore, Alberta.
Mr. Murray Stanton Brown, late of Alder Street, Clearbrook, passed away on Oct. 7, 1989 in his 66th year at Canmore Hospital, Alberta. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Walter and Pearl Brown. Survived by his loving wife Joyce; four children, Bob and wife Mary of Illinois, Lloyd of Hay River, N.W.T., Terri Sarver of Kamloops, and Patricia Brown of Clearbrook; and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Brown was retired from the B.C. Ferries Corporation and was a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association.
Prayers will be offered on October 11, 1989 at 8:00 p.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 32550 7th Ave., Mission. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 12, 1989 at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Father Gary Gordon celebrant.
