Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

DAVIS HERBERT T. (Rocky) passed away Aug. 28. 1989 at Cowichan District Hospital, after a short illness. Born in Wolverine Municipality, Sask., 1919. Survived by his loving wife Emma, sons Gerald and daughter-in-law Sharon from Courtenay, Larry from Victoria, and daughters Roxy Sparks and son-in-law Cris Lee from Vancouver, Wendy Johnston and Husband Rob from Australia. Grandchildren Lisa Sparks, Natasha and Cody Davis, Melissa and Graham Johnston. Also Brothers Walter of Windsor, Ont. and Dick of the Lower Mainland and sisters Lillian Ernst of Humboldt, Sask. and Ida Peal of London, Ont. Rocky served overseas with the Winnipeg Grenadiers for 5 years surviving the horrors of Hong Kong prisoner of war camps. He was an ardent scout and youth leader, and an active member of the A.O.T.S. Men's Group in the Duncan United Church. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family. Employed for years as a brick layer in Winnipeg and later worked at B.C.F.P. Crofton. Memorial services were held Thursday, August 31, 1989 1:00 p.m. at Duncan United Church. Flowers gratefully declined and those so wishing may donate to the Duncan A.O.T.S. or the charity of their choice. Arrangements entrusted to Sands Funeral Chapel in Duncan.
