Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

ROY FOWLER
On May 31 1975, at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, after a short illness, Roy Fowler, age 58 years, beloved husband of Pat, of 334 Mandeville St. Roy was a member of the Winnipeg Grenadiers, a Hong Kong Veteran. He had been employed by the Federal Government as a Meteorological Technician up until the time of his passing
Besides his wife Pat, Roy leaves to mourn his passing, his father Lawrence: daughter and son in law Judy and Tom English; son and daughter in law Larry and Gayle Fowler; two daughters, Kathryn and Dianna, son Andrew of Portage La Prairie, four sisters Evelyn Russell, Margaret and Thelma Fowler, and Florence Thompson, and two brothers, Gerald and Ray.
Funeral service will be held at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 3 at the Park Lawn Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave., the Rev. R. Gillanders officiating, with interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 700 Bannatyne Ave.
Pallbearers will be Larry Fowler, Ron Russell, Tom English, Lawrence Harvey, Russ Amy, and Frank Aitkens.
