Transportation - Home Base to Hong Kong
Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Obituary / Life Story
ROBERT Dalzell - With deep sorrow we announce the passing of our father, Robert (Pat) Dalzell, on Saturday, September 25, 1993 at the Misericordia General Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 1971 and leaves to cherish his memory four children, Ena, Margaret, Betty and Bob; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and relatives in Northern Ireland.
Pat was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1906 and immigrated to Canada in 1930. He served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers during the Second World War in Bermuda, Jamaica and in the defense of Hong Kong where he was captured and imprisoned until the end of the war.
After his service he was employed with Eatons until 1963. He was then with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires for 20 years Pat was a member of the Hong Kong Veterans’ Association, the Royal Canadian Legion – Elmwood Branch, and A.N.A.F. Winnipeg Unit No. 1.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to Dr. J.D. Fox and the staff of the Odd Fellows Personal Care Home, Dr. J.R. smith, nurses and staff at the Misericordia General Hospital.
Cremation has taken place, with interment in the family plot in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
