Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

WILLIAM THOMAS COX It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of William Cox on Monday, October 22, 2001 at the Grace Hospital. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret of 58 years, and will be lovingly remembered and cherished in the hearts of his son Gordon (Joan) of Pitt Meadows, BC; granddaughter Sharon; grandson Keith (Jeannie); Carla Cox (mother of his grandchildren); brother Les (Elyse) of London, ON; sisters-in-law, Audrey (Herman) Lafreniere and Nin Adams; as well as nieces, nephew and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 25 at 7:00p.m. in the Edward J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. Funeral service will also be held in the chapel on Friday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Answer: We put dynamite in the cement walls that we built in the mines at Ormine. We also threw in timbers or anything we could to weaken the work.
