Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Passed away on April 24th, 1972 at the Deer Lodge Hospital, Mr. Ivan J. Slipchenko aged 69 years, beloved husband of Mary Slipchenko of 814 - 555 River Avenue. Prayers will be said Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary's the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Burrows Ave., and Sinclair St., Divine Liturgy will be sung Friday April 28th all 9:30 a.m. at the Cathedral Rev. Fr. S. Kiciuk officiating. Interment in Brookside Cemetery. Mr. Slipchenko was born in the town of Stebliv of the Kaniy Province in the Ukraine on March 3, 1903. He left Stebliv on May 10th, 1923 and travelled through Siberia with his cousin Stephen. After spending two years in China, he arrived in Vancouver in 1925 and continued on to Winnipeg, after a short stay in Alberta and Saskatchewan. While in Winnipeg he was the operator of several Service stations before and after the Second World War. He was also a member of the Winnipeg Grenadiers Regiment Militia before the war and joined the army in 1939 when the Winnipeg Grenadiers Regiment was activated to active duty. He served in Jamaica and Hong Kong and was a prisoner of war for four and a half years from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of Hong Kong Veterans Association, Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Branch No. 141, St. Andrew's Brotherhood Society, St. Mary's The Protectress Cathedral. Besides his wife Mary, he is survived by his son Walter, his step-son Anthony Fuga and three grandchildren. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
