Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Peacefully on Thursday, January 31, 1991 at the St. Boniface Hospital with his family by his side. Harry Mallows aged 70 years, late of 70 Whellams Lane.
Harry was predeceased by his daughter Valerie, his parents Harry and Elsie Mallows, sister Elsie, brothers-in-law Bert and Michael. Harry leaves to mourn his passing his son Darren Harry (Bonnie), daughter Marilyn Dawn Marino (John), and their mother Beverley; sisters VI Glavin, Daisy Holmes (Reg); brother Bert; nieces, nephews, any friends; and special friend and companion Elaine.
Harry served in the Second World War in the Winnipeg Grenadiers from September, 1939 to March, 1946. Harry was employed with the City of Winnipeg Fire Department for 30 years, up to his retirement in 1980, he belonged to the Hong Kong Association and to the Legion No. 215.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, 1991 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the services in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Friends may view on Sunday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the chapel. Rev. Gordon Fulford will officiate.
The family wish to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their great kindness at our very difficult time, also to Dr. K. Riese and Dr. S. Larson and staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 100 Olive Street, in Harry's memory.
May God who calls our dear ones home: And gives them peace and rest, Give you the faith and will to say, He indeed knows best.
