Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

BORGE AGERBAK Suddenly on May 1, 2001 at the Grace General Hospital, Borge Agerbak passed away at the age of 87. His wife, Evelyn, predeceased him in April 1998 - they had been married for 56 years. They have two children, a daughter, Carol-Lynn Hadley (Allan), grandsons, Chris (special friend Nicole Dougall), and Les (special friend Dyan Cote) Hadley of Winnipeg and a son, William (Janie), with grandsons, Brent (special friend Erin), Jeff and Steve Agerbak of Edmonton. Borge (Buster) Agerbak was born March 21, 1914 in Odense, Denmark, the eldest son of Anton Agerbak and Kamma Moeller. They chose Canada as their new home in 1927 and settled in the Pilot Mound, Manitoba area with all five children, brother Ken and Beth of Tisdale, Sask. and predeceased by brother Tage (Rose) and sisters, Anne (Joe Paye) and Margaret (Mel Aune). Many other close family ties are through Evelyns family; in particular Jack and June Mitchell, Winnipeg. Borge married Elizabeth Evelyn White on October 18, 1941 in Winnipeg before returning to the war effort with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in Hong Kong where he was interned as a prisoner of war for almost four years in Japan. Buster was a long time member and executive of the Hong Kong Veterans Association and more recently a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association. He was a member of many Masonic organizations and held executive positions with all; some of them are: Red River Lodge #172, Corinthian Lodge #178, Quatour Coronati Lodge #2076 and the concordant York Rite bodies. He was also associated with the Order of DeMolay, Jobs Daughters, Eastern Star and the Khartum Shrine, for many years. Borge was a member of the United Church of Canada. He enjoyed gardening, reading and travelling. He retired from the Federal Civil Service in 1973 after 27 years and received the Canadian Centennial Medal from the Prime Minister in 1967. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Gordon Dixon at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 4. At his request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to "Winnipeg Grenadiers Hong Kong Trust Fund" 303-740 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, R3N 1Y3 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3C 2B7.
