Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

JKROG - Passed away suddenly July 17, 1968, John Andrew Krog, 14577--108th Ave., North Surrey in his 47th year. Survived by his loving wife, Blanche; 3 sons, Lee, Neil and Kurt at home; 1 brother, 1 sister. Funeral service Thursday, July 25 at 1p.m. in the Little Chapel of the Flowers, at Forest Lawn, Royal Oak Ave. at Canada Way. The Rev. V. G. Byers officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Park. FOREST LAWN MORTUARY funeral directors in charge.
John was born January 1st. 1921. He joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers at Fort Osborne Barracks, Winnipeg, in 1939, serving in the West Indies (Kingston, Jamaica) before leaving October 25th, 1941, for Hong Kong, arriving in Hong Kong November 16th, 1941. They were taken prison by the Japanese following the attack on Hong Kong December 7th, 1941. He was held in Japanese prison camps Shamshuipo Camp then Niigata, Japan, working in the Salt Mines until August 1945.
Manila Newspaper September I, 1945, reported John A. Krog, Manitoba, Safe. John’s parents, Kamilla and Joe Krog, of Onanole, received first letter from John written in Guam, September 17th.
