Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Keith Millward Stewart, beloved husband of Aileen M. Stewart, passed away in Deer Lodge Hospital, December 21st, after a short illness. He was 52 years of age and was born and raised at Pilot Mound.
Following the outbreak of War, Mr. Stewart joined the Winnipeg grenadiers in 1939. After service in Jamaica, he went to Hong Kong where he was taken prisoner of war and spent 4 years in a Japanese prison camp.
When the war ended, Mr. Stewart returned and farmed on the edge of town until his death. He was a member of the Masonic Order and also of pilot Mound Royal Canadian Legion Branch. He was also ardent curler for many years
Besides his wife, Mr. Stewart is survived by one daughter, Mrs. D. Roberts of Windsor, Ontario; four sons, Nolan, Jack, Dennis and James; his father, J. C. Stewart of Pilot Mound; three sisters, Mrs. W. T. Boote of Kaleida, Mrs. D. A. Fraser of Portage la Prairie, and Mrs. M. Shewchuk of Winnipeg; and one brother, Jack Stewart of Detroit, Michigan.
Funeral service was held in St. John's Anglican Church, December 24th at 2:30 PM. Reverend W. H. Gregory officiated, in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and sympathizing friends and neighbors. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion from many surrounding branches formed a guard of honour at the church and were in charge of the service at Pilot Mound Cemetery under H. Winram, District Commander.
Honorary pallbearers were six former members of the Grenadiers - H. Winram, J. Hay, J. Fordyce, W. Harding, D. Turk and R. Trick. Active pallbearers were James McKay, Gordon Walker, Dick Woodward, Earle Moore, Lorne McCannell and Jack Wallace.
Attending the funeral from a distance, along with family members, were Mr. and Mrs. W. Harding, Dave Turk, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McKay, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Walker, Bill Walker, Godfrey Zimmerman, Jim Kelly and Pat Burns, all of Winnipeg; Dick Trick of Stonewall; Mr. and Mrs. Don Walker of Teulon; Mr. and Mrs. W Struck and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Armstrong of Clandeboye.
